Residents in Marguerite Avenue in Primrose are at their wits’ end over the alleged illegal goings-on at a house in the street.
The many problems have been going on for a long time and residents have received no help from the metro or the police.
The GCN has also requested comment on the issues in the street from the metro on numerous occasions, but nothing has been forthcoming.
The occupants of the house allegedly blatantly break metro by-laws, as well as conduct illegal activities.
They dump rubbish over their wall and the area is becoming a health hazard.
There are also a number of ‘backyard shacks’ on the premises with many people living on the property, which is illegal.
Allegedly illegal electricity connections are also running to the house and the shacks, yet residents in the street get their electricity cut on a regular basis for no reason.
The street light at the bottom of Primula Road is also on all day.

The kerbing in the street was pulled up five years ago to lay pipes and was never reinstated, thus causing problems for residents trying to access their driveways, especially when it rains.
The occupants of the house have also started laying bricks on the pavement for more shacks, and although this was reported along with all the other complaints, nothing has been done about it.
A resident who does not want to be named for fear of reprisals told the GCN that glass is continuously broken across his home’s driveway, and that the occupants are extremely loud and often threaten people.
“They park on the pavement and play loud music and drink and hack off people’s tree branches for firewood,” the resident said.
It is also alleged that the house is used for drug dealing, but the police do nothing about this.
Ward 36 councillor Wendy Morgan told the GCN she is aware of the problems at the house and in the street and has contacted the metro and the EMPD to conduct an inspection.
“I have spoken to the city planning, building and energy departments at the metro and I am awaiting feedback from them,” she said.
