Crowns, sashes and helping people thrill Jessica

Primrose youngster is named a finalist in the Miss Elite SA competition.

She’s as cute as a button and although she is only five years old, she already has a social conscience and desire to help.

This is Jessica Morgan de Vrye, a Grade R learner at Daeraad Pre-Primary School, and Primrose resident.

Jessica has been named as a finalist in the Miss Elite SA competition.

The final is set to take place on March 24 in Klerksdorp.

“I told my mommy that I really want to help humans and animals and then my modelling teacher told my mommy about the Miss Elite SA competition and I asked if I could enter so that I could help more,” said Jessica.

The competition is based on beauty with a purpose, so each contestant is required to raise a certain amount of money, which will all go to the Feed The Babies Fund.

They are also required to support as many charities as they choose to during the six months leading up to the finals.

“This is such an amazing competition, as I have never seen my daughter so happy.

“Just being able to do what she loves, she gets to help so many people and fur babies, and she gets to rock that stage,” said Nicole, Jessica’s mother.

With regard to the number of charity projects leading up to the final, Nicole said that the number of projects chosen is entirely up to the contestant.

“You can pick one charity organisation and focus only on it or you can choose to do more,” Nicole said.

“Jessica was given this decision and she has chosen to help every person around her, so we have helped The Fairy Godmother and Multiple Solutions, which support our local community.

“She has also helped random people in Primrose as needed, such as helping a granny throw a birthday party for her granddaughter and giving her favourite doll to a little girl whose house burnt down with her beloved doll still inside.

“She has also chosen to assist the local SPCA and the Bunny Hop Haven.

“We have supplied the Germiston SPCA with food, books and ice creams for the employees and volunteers.

“We have sponsored the Bunny Hop Haven with veggies and bottles for their garden.”

Funds for the various projects have been raised in different ways.

Some have been generously donated and other funds have been raised by holding raffles.

“We have raffled sweet hampers which were given to us by a sponsor and will be holding a hair treatments raffle next month in our final push for funds,” Nicole said.

“I really want to help the little doggies and kitties more and of course the cute little bunnies.

“When my mommy helps me to sell the tickets, I want to use that money to buy them comfy blankets, toys and some yummy food in the last few weeks leading up to the final,” said Jessica.

Jessica loves modelling, swimming, boxing and playing with her baby brother Luke (seven months).

She affectionately calls him ‘Lucozade’ and loves to spend time with him and her parents Jaco and Nicole.

Her family is extremely supportive of her and she said it makes her happy that they are proud of her.

“I want to win the competition because I love the pretty crowns and sashes and because then it means I was the best with helping everyone,” Jessica said.

When she grows up she said she either wants to be a doctor or a vet and help those who don’t have money.

Once the competition is over Jessica said she still wants to help people.

She has competed in a number of modelling competitions before but none where she gets a chance to do charity work.

“Being able to help everyone makes me so happy.

“God has given me so much, I love that I am able to also give back to people who do not have anything,” said Jessica.

“I am very small, but I can also help big people, so it does not matter how big or small you are, the world needs everyone.

“As small as I am I can also speak for the little animals who really need me to speak for them.

“My mommy always says, unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it’s not.”

Jessica hopes that everyone who sees her story will start being nice to each other and start helping people and animals who need it most.
