Suspects flee from EMPD, abandon vehicle

EMPD members impound vehicle after chase.

EMPD Public Order Policing (Pops) Unit members who were patrolling in Vosloorus near Chris Hani Mall last Thursday afternoon, noticed a white Ford Figo with four suspicious-looking suspects.

After indicating to the driver that he should stop, the driver decided instead to accelerate and speed away. A high-speed chase ensued and the four occupants eventually abandoned the vehicle in Spruitview and fled on foot.

“The suspects momentarily managed to lose the metro police during the chase, but the members managed to locate the vehicle and found it stationary and empty in Mthethwa Street.

“Upon investigation, it was found that the Ford Figo had not been stolen.

“It is suspected that the four suspects fled because they were in possession of some illegal items,” said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD.

The vehicle was taken to the EMPD pound facility in Boksburg to conduct further investigations.
