One vehicle crash, six lives lost

Five adults and one child die in a minibus taxi crash in Germiston.

Six people were killed in a recent minibus taxi crash on the M2.

The taxi, which was carrying 19 passengers, crashed into the metal centre barrier of the M2 freeway eastbound, before the Geldenhuys interchange in Germiston.

The Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue team from the Germiston Fire Station was the first to arrive at the scene and found that one adult was ejected from the vehicle.

Amongst the six people declared dead at the scene by the paramedics, one was a minor.

Two passengers sustained critical injuries, nine sustained serious but stable injuries and three others had minor injuries.

All casualties were transported by private ambulances to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital, Hillbrow Clinic (both in Johannesburg) and Bertha Gxowa Hospital in Germiston.

Two lanes were closed during the medical rescue operations.

The Ekurhuleni traffic officials, SAPS accident investigating officials, together with the Gauteng provincial traffic officials, conducted an on-scene investigation.
