Assumption Convent celebrates another successful year

Assumption Convent School celebrates a successful year with a 100 per cent pass rate in the 2017 IEB matric examinations.

Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matrics across the country waited with baited breath for their results to be released at midnight on Wednesday.

Germiston’s Assumption Convent School celebrated another year with a 100 per cent pass rate, and 97 distinctions in total.

Forty-seven matric candidates sat for this year’s gruelling year-end examinations, with 98 per cent of the learners achieving a university pass and two per cent receiving a diploma pass.

The school’s Aliah Abrahams not only achieved eight distinctions, for accounting, Afrikaans, English, geography, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics and physical science, but also placed in the top five percent of the IEB’s outstanding achievement list.

“We’re very proud of all our matrics; well done girls,” said principal of Assumption Convent Neville Workman.

The school’s other top achievers included:

• Jessica Gerber, who achieved eight distinctions, in accounting, Afrikaans, English, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics, advanced programme mathematics and physical science.

• Brittany Dennison, who achieved seven distinctions, for accounting, Afrikaans, dramatic arts, English, life orientation, life sciences and mathematics.

• Brodie Stevenson, who received six distinctions, for Afrikaans, English, history, life orientation, life sciences and mathematics.

• Rafaella Toi, who earned six distinctions, for English, isiZulu, history, life orientation, life sciences and mathematics.

• Debora da Fonseca achieved five distinctions, for Afrikaans, English, business studies, history and life orientation.

• Shalom Gwanyuki received five distinctions, in computer applications technology, dramatic arts, life orientation, life sciences and mathematics.

• Monica Alves achieved four distinctions, for business studies, history, life orientation and mathematics.

• Vanessa Alves received four distinctions, for business studies, history, life orientation and mathematics.

• Nicole Soundiades earned four distinctions, for Afrikaans, dramatic arts, life orientation and mathematics.

“Congratulations to all our 2017 matriculants on a fine set of results,” said Workman proudly.

“It has been a great privilege having you at our school, and our very best wishes go with you as you now embark on the next exciting stage in your studies and future careers.

“We will follow your progress and achievements with great interest.”
