Connectivity device links alleged thief to several crimes

Primrose police apprehended a man for shoplifting in Primrose.

The Primrose police arrested a 52-year-old man last Saturday for shoplifting in Rietfontein Road, in Primrose.

Officers were alerted to the crime by the store’s security guard.

“The security officer told police he had noticed the man acting suspiciously and decided to follow him around the store where he allegedly observed him placing items from the shelves into his jacket,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The man was arrested and taken to the Primrose Police Station, where he was formally charged.

“During processing, the suspect was linked to seven other cases of theft and shoplifting around the country with the help of a micro connectivity device,” said Maome.

“It was discovered that the accused had used a different name for each case.”

He has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where his case was postponed.

He will remain in police custody until his next court appearance.
