Cluster start festive season with 12 arrests

The Ekurhuleni West Cluster police kicked off their festive season operations in Katlehong.

Police officers from the Ekurhuleni West Cluster arrested 12 suspects during a night operation in Katlehong on Wednesday.

The operation marked the start of the cluster’s festive season operations, and saw members of the Crime Prevention Unit working alongside detectives to track down and arrest criminals.

“This was the start of many operations as we head into the festive season,” said Katlehong SAPS spokesperson Capt Mega Ndobe.

“Our aim is to ensure maximum visibility around Katlehong throughout the holidays.”

The accused were arrested for various offences.

Charges included rape, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, common assault, business robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, theft and shoplifting.

The arrested suspects have since appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, where their cases were postponed for various reasons.
