Man arrested on charge of statutory rape

Primrose police arrest a 20-year-old man on a charge of statutory rape.

The Primrose police arrested a 20-year-old on a charge of statutory rape on Wednesday.

The man was arrested after it was reported that he allegedly forced himself on a minor.

“The incident was reported to the police by the victim’s parents,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

The complainant alleged that their daughter went to the shops and when she returned she claimed she had lost her keys and needed to go look for them.

“When she had not returned home after several hours her parents went looking for her and found her with the accused in Blackwood Road.

“They decided to take both of them to the police station to explain what had happened to the police,” said Maome.

The pair ran away before they reached the Primrose Police Station.

“The parents opened a missing person case with the police, however, the girl returned home on her own the next day.

“She allegedly told her mother that the accused had forced himself on her and then chased her home the next morning,” said Maome.

Due to the fact that the victim is a minor a case of statutory rape was opened and the accused was arrested.

He has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
