Local patrollers learn about fighting fires

PRAC patrollers up their skills to help keep the community safe.

It was a special evening for 13 patrollers from PRAC (Primrose Residents Against Crime) on Thursday when they were presented with certificates in basic firefighting training.

They underwent the training presented by Johan Grobler (the branch manager of the Secunda branch) from Transvaal Training last weekend.

Theory sessions were held at the office in Oak Avenue and the practical session took place at the Primrose Sports Centre.

The training covered a number of subjects including identifying potential hazards, the causes of fire and the classes of fire to operating basic firefighting equipment, basic firefighting techniques and firefighting precautions.

The course will enable the patrollers to conduct their jobs more effectively and a first aid course is also in the pipeline to give them more skills.

The patrollers who were awarded certificates are Norman Wardon, Jade Jordan, Christo Jordan, Emilia Duarte-Potgieter, Chris Smith, Andre van Niekerk, A Markus, Dawid Smit, Errol Mollentze, Alcino De Matos, Limpy De Matos, Susan Mollentze, Loma du Preez, David Deysel and Japie Potgieter
