Christmas drive fun at local schools

Children had a wonderful time when they were visited by the Mamba Red Bin Brigade’s Christmas Drive characters.

Children throughout the area were thrilled when Father Christmas, along with a band of colourful characters, visited their schools on Thursday.

The Mamba Red Bin Brigade’s Christmas Drive saw youngsters from various schools being thanked for their donations which will be handed to organisations that help the disabled, sick or terminally ill, this festive season.

The annual Charity Christmas Drive was started in 1994.

The first parade saw 15 cars visiting five schools.

Today it reaches almost 40 schools, uses 100 cars and over 150 Mamba employees and volunteers are involved.

The drive is specifically designed to involve and benefit the entire community.

The Red Bin Brigade places bins at schools (and businesses) in the community and these are filled with donations (second-hand clothes, toys etc) from the learners throughout the year and then during the Christmas Drive the children are thanked by Father Christmas and all his helpers with sweets and a visit.

The children were all extremely excited by the visit and were thrilled when the vehicles pulled up with music and fun.

Father Christmas was the definite hit of the day but all the characters managed to bring smiles to the children’s faces.

The main charities supported by the Primrose Mamba Red Bin Brigade are Remme-Los , El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety, Prim Villa, Multiple Solutions (MS) Johannesburg, Fairy Godmothers and Elandsvallei Home for the Aged.
