Learning made fun at Roseacres

Children from Homework Heaven Pre-Primary School learn more about what happens behind the scenes at Life Roseacres Hospital.

Life Roseacres Hospital was filled with the sounds of children’s laughter and amazement on Friday during Homework Heaven Pre-Primary School’s visit.

The youngsters from the Primrose-based school were treated to a very special tour of the hospital.

The learners were welcomed warmly by Matron Sophie Sibisi, hospital manager Henriette Pretorius and other staff members before they visited the hospital’s casualty ward where they were taught what happens when a patient is brought to the hospital by ambulance.

The children dressed in casualty ward scrubs while nurses and doctors showed them each step that is followed.

Learners then had the opportunity to look inside an ambulance and meet paramedics.

The tour also took children to the ICU ward, maternity ward, theatre and surgical ward and at each ward, they were given a brief lesson on what the ward does and how staff help patients.

The group then gathered in the hospital canteen where they met paediatrician Dr Hassina Ebrahim and received safety tips from Sr Johanna Ramalo and a handwashing demonstration from Sr Doreen Seopa.

Before heading back to school the children were taught the dos and don’ts when helping someone who is bleeding.

The children enjoyed their time at the hospital immensely.
