Couple’s spat ends in assault

The Primrose police arrested a man for allegedly beating his girlfriend.

A 26-year-old man was arrested by the Primrose police, last Saturday, for domestic violence.

The arrest was made in the Delport informal settlement, after the incident was reported to police by the victim of the attack.

“The complainant alleged that she was assaulted by her boyfriend, who she has a daughter with.

“She told officers that she was arguing with the accused when he began hitting her and burnt her clothing,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

The victim told officers that after the attack the accused took their daughter, who is still being breastfed, away from her.

“He allegedly kept them apart for the whole night and they were only reunited in the morning,” Maome said.

Police traced the suspect and he was arrested.

“We are appealing to our community to seek help if they are having problems in their relationships.

“We have professionals who can help community members resolve their relationship challenges,” said Maome.

The man has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for trial.
