Be on the lookout for fraudsters

The Primrose police warn the community to be alert to people selling secondhand goods.

The Primrose police are urging the community to be on high alert when buying secondhand goods, especially vehicles, as they are being sold under false pretences.

This warning comes after several community members have reported these scams to the police.

“The items are advertised on various platforms with prices that are too good to be true,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“When the potential buyer contacts the seller they are told that they are not the only person interested in the item and that an immediate deposit will secure the purchase.

“This is a scam as items for sale never exist at all.”

Police encourage the community to make sure of the items and sellers authenticity before paying any money.

“Do not be overly hasty because the deal is too good to pass up,” warned Maome.

Suspicious activities can be reported to the police on 011 842 0522 or 071 675 6864/5/6/7/8/9.
