Woman attempts to escape arrest

Primrose police arrested a 26-year-old woman for shoplifting.

The Primrose police arrested a 26-year-old woman for shoplifting, last Monday.

The arrest was made after a local store’s security guard witnessed the woman slipping items from the shelves into her handbag.

“The security guard explained that she would place a few items in her basket and others she would slip into her handbag.

“When she got to the till-point she allegedly only paid for the items in her basket,” explained communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

When she attempted to leave the store she was confronted by the security guard.

“The woman allegedly attempted to run away but she was caught and detained,” said Maome.

Police were called to the scene and she was arrested and taken to the Primrose Police Station where she was formally charged.

“While being processed, and with the help of a micro-connectivity device, the woman was linked to a shoplifting case in Bedfordview,” Maome said.

The accused has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where her case was postponed for plea and trial.

“Once her case has been finalised she will be handed over to the Bedfordview police to face the 2015 shoplifting charge,” Maome explained.
