Man arrested for perjury after opening false case

Germiston SAPS arrest man for perjury after he allegedly opened a fake hijacking case.

A 39-year-old man came to the Germiston Police Station, last Wednesday, to report an alleged hijacking.

“Police began investigating the case immediately.

“During an interview with the complainant officers discovered that the complainant was not telling the truth,” explained Capt George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston SAPS.

The man was arrested and charged with perjury.

“It is hoped that this arrest will serve as a warning to the community not to open false cases, as it is a criminal offence,” said Raphulu.

The suspect will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
