The national crime statistics for the past financial year were revealed in parliament on Tuesday by Police Minister Fikile Mbalula.
The figures were given for the time period April 2016 to March 2017.
The GCN breaks down some of the crime stats for the police stations covering the Germiston area.
• Elsburg Police Station:
Murder: 16 (a 100 per cent increase from the same period last year which was 8).
Sexual offences: 51 (a 30.8 per cent increase from the same period last year which was 39).
Attempted murder: 19 (a 20.8 per cent decrease from the same period last year which was 24).
Rape: 35 (a 9.4 per cent increase from the same period last year which was 32).
Sexual assault: 12 (a 500 per cent increase from the same period last year which was 2).
Carjacking: 35 (a 53.3 per cent decrease from the same period last year which was 75).
Robbery at residential premises: 82 (a 182.8 per cent increase from the same period last year which was 29).
Burglary at residential premises: 362 (a 14.6 per cent increase from the same period last year which was 316).
Theft of motor vehicle and motorcycle: 188 (a 9.2 per cent decrease from the same period last year which was 207.
Drug-related crime: 194 (a 142.5 per cent increase from the same period last year which was 80).
• Germiston Police Station:
Murder: 44 (a 8.3 per cent decrease from the same period last year which was 48).
Sexual offences: 83 (a 13.5 per cent decrease from the same period last year which was 96).
Attempted murder: 43 (a 21.8 per cent decrease from the same period last year which was 55).
Rape: 62 (a 13.9 per cent decrease from the same period last year which was 72).
Sexual assault: 12 (a 14.3 per cent decrease from the same period last year which was 14).
Carjacking: 79 (an 18.6 per cent decrease from the same period last year which was 97).
Robbery at residential premises: 52 (a 14.8 per cent decrease from the same period last year which was 61).
Burglary at residential premises: 580 (a 6.8 per cent increase from the same period last year which was 543).
Theft of motor vehicle and motorcycle: 308 (an 11.2 per cent decrease from the same period last year which was 543).
Drug-related crime: 544 (a 108.4 per cent increase from the same period last year which was 261).

• Primrose Police Station:

Drug-related crime: 316 (a 55.7 per cent increase from the same period last year which was 203).
