Commuters in the Katlehong area were excited at the opening of the newly constructed Phuthaditjaba Taxi Rank.
Residents of Katlehong expressed relief, last Friday when MMC for transport and planning Clr Petrus Mabunda handed over the R23-million facility to them.
“We are here to respond to the concerns you have raised in the Integrated Development Plan concerning the need for a taxi rank.
“We are happy to hand it over to you with all the necessary amenities to make travelling easy.
“This taxi rank will bring about improved taxi operations, convenience and safety for pedestrians and road users,” Mabunda said.
The taxi rank will serve both commuters transported by the Greater Alberton Taxi Association and the Katlehong Peoples Taxi Association.
Amenities available at the new taxi rank include an office building, public ablution facilities, hawker stalls, a wash bay, loading area with shelter, holding area, fence, water and electricity, access road and an administration office.
