Beware – Weather service warns of strong, damaging winds

The South African Weather Service warned residents of strong, damaging winds that were expected to sweep across the country, bringing with them the chance of runaway veld fires, last Tuesday. It was predicted that these winds would be most persistent in the afternoon. These warnings came after a week of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain.

Police stoned saving man from mob justice

Police members felt the brunt of the Makause informal settlement community’s wrath, recently, when they were pelted with stones when trying to save a suspect from mob justice. Pretoria Road, in Primrose, had to be closed for a number of hours due to the unrest in the settlement. Sgt Styles Maome told the GCN that police received a tip-off at about 8.30am that community members were busy exacting mob justice.

Suspected stolen vehicle found and four arrested

While on patrol in Driehoek, last Friday, officers from the Germiston Police Station noticed a suspicious-looking double-cab bakkie. “They pulled the vehicle over and asked the driver and three passengers to get out of the car while they and the vehicle were searched,” said Capt George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston SAPS. During the search, an unlicensed firearm was found in the possession of one of the men and police discovered the vehicle had been hijacked in Primrose.

Traffic may be affected by movement of aircraft

The public were warned that there may be possible traffic congestion in Germiston, last Friday, as an aircraft was moved through the streets. The Lockheed Starliner left O R Tambo International Airport and travelled through Boksburg to Rand Airport.
