Decomposed body found in Malvern East park

The body of a man was discovered in a substation in a park on Wednesday.

What was supposed to be an ordinary day for workers of the metro’s Parks Department turned into a gruesome discovery on Wednesday.

The team was working in Stewart Park on the corner of Stanhope and Mullins roads in Malvern East when they detected a strange smell coming from the substation in the park.

Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose SAPS, said the workers approached the substation and noticed that the padlock on the door was broken.

“One of the workers opened the door and found the decomposed body of a man inside,” he said.

Maome added that due to the decomposition of the body, the man could not be identified.

He was dressed in a pair of jeans, one boot and a drymac jacket.

Ward 36 Clr Wendy Morgan, who was on the scene, told the GCN that the body was discovered at about 10.30am.

“It looks like the man may have been living inside the substation,” she said.

The Primrose SAPS are investigating and have opened an inquest docket. They are appealing to anyone who may have information about the deceased or who is missing a relative, to contact the station on 011 842 0522.
