Nine nabbed for dagga possession

Police apprehended nine suspects for possession of dagga.

During a two-day operation, Primrose police arrested nine suspects, aged between 23 and 44 years old, for possession of dagga.

The operation saw officers visiting the Makause, Delport and Marathon informal settlements where they held stop-and-go searches.

“We are still struggling with substance abuse in our precinct and will continue to host similar operations in an effort to snub out the problem,” said communications officer for the Primrose police Sgt Styles Maome.

Police believe that substance abuse can be linked to several other crimes in the area, including domestic violence, murder and assault.

The accused were taken to the Primrose Police Station where several paid an admission of guilt fine before being released.

Others will soon appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
