It was all about rhinos and their conservation at the monthly Germiston Probus Club meeting, last Tuesday.
The members were treated to an informative talk by Margie Kolver.
She runs a company called 1 000 000 Footprints to Save Africa based in Johannesburg.
Margie has been an environmentalist since 1998.
“The environment is my passion,” she said.
She specifically discussed the rhino situation with the members as they are an endangered species.
“The situation is very bad as close to 800 rhinos have been poached this year already,” she said.
“That equates to almost three rhinos per day.”
Margie also mentioned the effect losing rhinos, lions and any of the Big Five has on the country.
“There is a huge impact on tourism and if we keep losing animals this will result in job losses and an increase in poverty,” Margie said.
The members thoroughly enjoyed the discussion.
The Germiston Probus Club meets every second Tuesday of the month at 11am at the Germiston/Delville Bowling Club in Delville South Road, Delville.
