Beware – Weather service warns of strong damaging winds

The South African Weather Service has warned of potential veld fires and strong damaging winds across Gauteng.

The South African Weather Service, this morning, warned resident of strong, damaging winds that are expected to sweep across the country, bringing with them the chance of runaway veld fires.

It is predicted that these winds will be most persistent this afternoon.

These warning come after a week of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain.

The warnings were released  as a severe weather watch, which is an alert calling for preparedness to weather hazards that will most likely occur within one to three days and that could lead to disruptive and disastrous conditions.

  • Damaging Winds

Strong damaging winds are expected over Gauteng, today, mainly during the afternoon.

  • Veld Fire Conditions

Veld fires are expected in places over Gauteng today.

Motorists are once again reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling.

They are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distance and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility, in the case of smoke.

Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
