Warning – Severe thunderstorms and hail could be expected today

The South African Weather Service warns of severe thunderstorms, heavy rains and hail predicted in parts of the province today.

It is a gloomy Monday in Germiston after a weekend full on rain.

This morning the South African Weather Service has warned residents to be on high alert as severe thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail are predicted from noon.

Full list of warnings:

  • Severe Thunderstorms:
Severe thunderstorms with the possibility of large hail and damaging winds and reduced visibility expected in some areas of Gauteng from noon to 10pm.
  •  Heavy Rain:
Heavy rain is expected in parts of Gauteng today, which could lead to localised flooding in some areas.

Motorists are reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling.

They are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distance and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility.

Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
