Look out, snake season is upon us

With spring in the air and the weather nice and warm, snakes will now be up and about, after a long period of brumation, hungry and in search of food. From mid-August until late May it is snake season. The metro cautions pet owners to be on high alert and keep an eye on their domestic pets as they may fall prey to snakes.

Warning – Severe thunderstorms, damaging winds could be expected today

The South African Weather Service warned residents to be prepared for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and hot weather, on Wednesday, warning that severe thunderstorms and damaging winds could hit the province.

Stolen vehicle found abandoned in police roadblock

During a recent roadblock in Pretoria Road, in Primrose, police recovered a vehicle stolen during a Jet Park business robbery. “Officers were holding a roadblock in the area when they noticed a stationary vehicle,” said the communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome. The vehicle’s hazard lights were on, the engine running and the keys in the ignition, but there was no sign of a driver.

Update: Suspect surrenders to Germiston SAPS

A 36-year-old man handed himself over to the Germiston SAPS, recently. The police have been looking for the suspect in connection with the recent Germiston South drive-thru murder (GCN, September 8, “Man shot and killed at drive-thru”). The murder took place on August 26 on the corner of Angus and Webber roads, in Germiston South.

Breaking News: Germiston SAPS member arrested on charges of double murder, attempted murder

Police arrested a 33-year-old Germiston SAPS constable, last Monday, after he was implicated in a double murder and attempted murder. The case which dates back to 2013 is currently being heard in court and one suspect has been convicted. “During court proceedings the constable was named as an accomplice,” said Lt Col Lungelo Dlamini, spokesperson for the Gauteng Provincial SAPS.
