Man allegedly stabbed by brother-in-law

Man apprehended by the Primrose police for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

While on his way to the shops, last Sunday, a Makause informal settlement man was allegedly assaulted by his 24-year-old brother-in-law.

The victim claimed the situation escalated when the accused followed him home and stabbed him with a sharp object in the upper body.

“The victim told officers that he was on his way to the shops, with his one-year-old son, when he met his brother-in-law, who was drunk.

“The accused attempted to take the child but the father refused his advances and asked him to leave the child alone,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The suspect allegedly began shouting at the victim and hit him on the head.

“The complainant decided to go home but the accused allegedly followed him,” said Maome.

The man continued to shout at the victim and accused him of being disrespectful.

“The victim told police that during the altercation the man stabbed him in the upper body with a sharp object before disappearing,” Maome said.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police traced the accused and he was arrested and charged with assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
