Five nabbed by Zonkizizwe police over weekend

Zonkizizwe police recorded a number of successes last weekend.

Five men, aged between 18 and 50 years, were nabbed last weekend by members of the Zonkizizwe SAPS.

The arrests took place in various areas policed by the Zonkizizwe Police Station during crime prevention operations in conjunction with community patrollers.

Among the suspects arrested was a 43-year-old who was nabbed in Zone Six on a charge of attempted rape.

He allegedly attempted to rape an 11-year-old girl.

According to the girl’s mother, she had sent her to a nearby shop on September 30 and the girl had come home crying.

“The child then reported to the mother that she was forcefully dragged to a shack by the suspect,” said Sgt Rufus Tema, communications officer for the Zonkizizwe police.

“The man, in the child’s words, started to fondle her private parts before his wife entered and rescued her.

“A case docket was registered and the man was later arrested on a charge of attempted rape.”

Two other suspects were arrested for possession of dagga and one for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
