The acting executive mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Doctor Xhakaza, welcomed the City of Breda, led by executive mayor Paul Depla, to Germiston, on Monday.
They met in the Mayor’s Parlour at the Germiston Civic Centre.
The metro has a long-established partnership with the City of Breda.
The partnership has evolved from investigating solutions for urban renewal to local economic development and the aerotropolis.
The City of Breda’s visit formed part of servicing the existing MoU.
In his closing remarks, the chief whip of council, Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi, extended his sincerest gratitude to Depla and his delegates for honouring Ekurhuleni’s invitation.
“In pursuit of strengthened relations, we hope that moving the continued partnership forward we will bring forth economic opportunities which will position the metro in the global economic sphere,” said Dlabathi.
The City of Breda, in the Netherlands, is well known for being a service-oriented economy, based on business, trade and logistics.
Therefore, this is a fundamental partnership for the metro to improve its industrial capabilities in manufacturing and to enhance the potential of the region to become the metro with the most robust local manufacturing value chain.
The metro also hosts the headquarters of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, which relates to the development of its 30-year Aerotropolis Master Plan, which intends to enhance the investment profile and position of Ekurhuleni.
On behalf of the metro, Dlabathi thanked Depla for the City of Breda’s consistent commitment to Ekurhuleni.
“The global economic landscape is dire and the major players are dictating a fourth industrial revolution.
“Therefore, it is imperative we continuously develop political and economic ways to manage these new trajectories, parallel to competing in the global landscape.
“We hope this partnership will continue to bear fruit and we want to see its existence in generations to come,” he said.
