Babies gifted by local store

Local store does its bit for El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety.

El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety received a much-needed gift recently.

The Primrose-based baby home was given a R5 000 gift card by Shoprite Primrose.

This was after Alistair Scholtz, one of the managers at the home, contacted Shoprite.

“I sent a letter to Shoprite’s head office in Cape Town, requesting donations, and liaised with a woman called Shereen Manuel,” said Scholtz.

“We were thrilled when we heard they will donate and we are truly grateful for that because it has helped a lot.”

Scholtz said they managed to buy some necessities with the gift card.

Shoprite Primrose’s front admin manager Lauren Lamola (centre) hands over the R5 000 gift card from Shoprite Primrose to El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety’s managing couple, Merencia and Alistair Scholtz.

“The gift card was handed over to us by the front admin manager, Lauren Lamola, and it enabled us to purchase nappies, baby food, wet wipes, baby shampoo and much-needed detergents,” said Scholtz.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to Shoprite and everyone involved.

“We, however, need constant donations to keep doing what we do best and that is caring for abused, abandoned and neglected babies.”

Scholtz thanked people who donate to the home.

“We also thank the many individuals who walk in to make donations; your assistance and selfless giving is highly appreciated,” said Scholtz.

“Businesses and individuals in the community who wish to make a donation, can contact us on 011 054 0540 or alternatively email allistair@elshammahbabyhome.co.za to request a copy of our wish list.”
