Police target illegal taverns

Two illegal taverns closed down in the Delport informal settlement during police operation.

The Primrose police continued their efforts to crack down on illegal taverns in the area.

During a recent operation, officers shut down another two illegal taverns in the Delport informal settlement and arrested two men, aged 24 and 29 years old, respectively.

The men were charged with selling liquor without a licence after they failed to show police their liquor licences during a search of each of their taverns.

“Police seized a large amount of alcohol from each of the taverns which were taken to the Primrose Police Station.

“The alcohol will be destroyed at a later stage,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The men arrested in the operation have since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where their cases were postponed for plea and trial.
