Illegal firearm and ammunition found in stove

Primrose police arrest a 52-year-old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

While following up on a case, in the Makause informal settlement recently, officers from the Primrose Police Station made an unexpected discovery.

“While questioning a potential suspect officers became suspicious of him and his behaviour.

“They asked to search his shack,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

During the search officers found a 7.65mm firearm, with its serial number removed, and 14 rounds of live ammunition in and small homemade stove.

The 52-year-old man was arrested and taken to the Primrose Police Station, where he was formally charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

He will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
