Alleged car thief crashes car

Man discovers his stolen vehicle has been involved in accident only moments after being stolen.

In an unlikely turn of events, a 37-year-old man was arrested by the Germiston SAPS for the alleged theft of a motor vehicle after being involved in an accident in the stolen vehicle.

The arrest was made last Monday when the vehicle’s owner alerted police to the theft.

“The complainant explained to police that he parked his car in a parking bay in the Germiston CBD and went shopping.

“When he returned his car was gone.

“As he walked to the police station to report the crime he discovered that his vehicle had been involved in an accident with a taxi only metres from where it was stolen,” said Capt George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston SAPS.

Officers arrested the injured man and under police guard, he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

“He was later brought to the Germiston police station where he will be detained pending future investigation,” said Raphulu.
