Don’t let your baby clothes go to waste

Lend a helping hand to the El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety, in Primrose.

One thing all new mothers can agree on is that their little bundles of joy never stop growing.

Before you know it your baby has outgrown its wonderful little outfits, even those it never got the chance to wear.

Instead of throwing these outfits into storage and forgetting about them, why not help a baby in need? Simply donate your pre-loved baby clothes to the El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety, in Primrose.

Your donation, however small, could make an amazing difference in the life of a baby who has nothing.

The home was officially opened on May 13, 2009 and is currently run by Alistair and Merencia Scholtz.

The facility is not an orphanage, but rather a place of safety, where abandoned babies can stay and be cared for and loved until the Children’s Court decides what their future holds.

The home strives to provide a safe and neat home environment – a place of love, care and protection.

The babies are lovingly cared for by full-time, qualified and trained caregivers who are on hand 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

The El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies also has a ‘hole in the wall’, where mothers can leave their unwanted babies.

It offers a safe, dry and warm place for the baby.

Caregivers check the ‘hole in the wall’ on a regular basis.

If you would like to get involved or make a donation, contact the home on 011 054 0530.
