Smash-and-grab hotspot in the spotlight

Sector One gets a visit from the Primrose police and the Primrose SAPS Crime Prevention Youth Desk.

The Primrose police and members of the Primrose SAPS Crime Prevention Youth Desk visited the intersection of Stanley and Main Reef roads in Primrose Sector One recently to sensitise the community about smash-and-grabs which take place at the intersection.

“Police have opened a number of smash-and-grab cases where drivers have been targeted while waiting for the traffic lights to change at the intersection,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose SAPS.

“Suspects will smash the vehicle’s window and make off with valuable belongings like laptops, cellphones and whatever else they can help themselves to.”

The Primrose SAPS appeal to the community of and visitors to Primrose to make sure they do not leave valuables on their passenger seats as they are making themselves vulnerable.

“People must make sure they lock all items in the boot of their vehicles,” said Maome.

The police and youth desk members handed out 500 safety tip pamphlets to passing motorists.

“We hope they will help them become more aware of the problem,” said Maome.

“We thank our youth desk members for the major role they are playing to help the police in the fight against crime in the area.

“The management of the Primrose police station are pleased to have such a wonderful group of young people.”
