Metro encourages its women employees to study further

Women urged to take advantage of bursaries offered by the metro.

MMC for Environment and Waste Management Services, Clr Ndosi Shongwe, encouraged women in her department to pursue education as she believes this is the key to their success.

The encouragement came during an event to honour women in environment and waste management services held at the Birchwood Hotel, last Saturday.

Each employee of the metro is entitled to R10 000 for tuition fees and over R3 000 for prescribed books as stipulated in the study bursary scheme for employees policy.

Efforts to reduce crime continue

“It cannot be normal that you were employed five years ago to pick-up litter, cut grass and sweep the streets and five years later you are still doing the same job.

“Today I want each one of you to do some self-introspection and I also challenge you to improve yourselves through education,” said Shongwe.

She emphasised that a gathering of women to commemorate Women’s Month can’t be about singing and dancing every year, it should be about empowering each other and making an impact in one’s life.

“As the metro we have a dedicated unit within the Human Resources Department dealing with education, training and development of employees, therefore, I urge you to approach them, they will guide you to identify training needs needed in the department,” Shongwe said.
