Young women to discuss gender equality

The Germiston City Hall plays host to a dialogue for young women.

As the country continues to honour the paramount role of women in society, the spotlight will fall on feminism as future leaders converge for a dialogue at the Germiston City Hall, today (Friday).

Young women from different walks of life will engage in conversations and share the challenges they experience in various environments in their quest to realise gender equality by 2030 under the theme “Thinking and Re-thinking Feminism”.

The dialogue will be hosted by a panel of experts in the field of gender equality and feminism and will be followed by a Women in the Infrastructure Development Summit from August 29 to 30, at the Alberton Customer Care Centre.

The two-day summit will draw close to 200 women who will learn how the city plans to accelerate and implement the Gender Equality Act in infrastructure development, as outlined in the municipality’s flagship projects.

“The involvement of women in such platforms will afford the municipality an opportunity to correct and balance the inequitable distribution of opportunities that existed in the past, while empowering women in their mission to realise gender equality,” said Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

The summit resolutions and deliberations from the young women’s dialogue will be tabled for consideration by council.
