A woman narrowly escaped an alleged rape with the help of the Katlehong police.

A 26-year-old woman narrowly escaped an alleged attempted rape after allegedly being kidnapped in the Sonoabo Section of Katlehong.

“Police were on a routine night patrol of the area when they spotted a white taxi parked in an open field,” explained Capt Mega Ndobe, corporate communications officer for the Katlehong police.

Feeling suspicious the officers approached the vehicle to investigate.

“The woman sprang from the vehicle screaming and claiming that a 33-year-old man had kidnapped her and was attempting to rape her inside the taxi,” said Ndobe.

The man, still inside the vehicle, was arrested and charged with kidnapping and attempted rape.

“The taxi was confiscated during the arrest for further investigation,” Ndobe said.

The accused is expected to appear in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
