Aviation fans excited by spectacular aerobatic feats

Great fun at the Rand Airshow.

Anticipation and excitement filled the air as the Rand Airshow took flight on Sunday out of Rand Airport.

The crowd was awestruck as pilots, in a huge array of aircraft from vintage to modern, took to the air in what was once again a spectacular show of skill and daring.

The Flying Lions’ aerobatic team was once again one of the highlights of the show in both their flat show and aerobatic display.

The Flying Lions have been operating as a display team for 17 years. They are renowned for doing formation aerobatic displays in a four-ship element and are loved and sought after at every airshow event.

The Flying Lions recently obtained sponsorship from the Puma Energy Company and are flying to greater heights with the support of the company.

Back-to-back flying displays and non-stop action ensured there was something for everyone at the airshow.

Although the P51 Mustang was once again a firm favourite on the day, the Goodyear Eagles, the Team Torre aerobatics display and the Douglas DC3 also captivated spectators.

Aviation fans were also treated to aerobatic feats from the L39 Albatross Formation Aerobatics Team, a Neville Ferreira Slick 540 display, an Antonov AN2 and the Extra 330 Aerobatics Team.

Along with the fun in the air there was also lots of fun on the ground with food stalls galore, the Air Scouts Gauteng fraternity, jumping castles, aircraft displays and much more.
