Don’t miss the fantastic feats of the Flying Lions at the Rand Airshow

The Rand Airshow will take flight from 10.30am this Sunday.

The Flying Lions were invited to a private strip near Hekpoort on December 13, 2016, to do a display for the pilots, family and friends of some  30-odd vintage aircraft who had just done a mammoth flight trekking through Africa  from Crete and were soon to continue on their way to Cape Town.

As the Harvards arrived overhead the airspace was cleared and the Flying Lions did an aerobatic display which is still remembered today.

On the ground were various members of the Puma Energy Company which had sponsored fuel for the epic trip of the vintage aircraft and as the Lions landed they were met by the Pumas’ Zohra McDoolley-Aimone, the head of corporate affairs Africa, who was impressed with what she had seen.

Puma is busy establishing a strong footprint in South Africa with their vehicle service stations, as well as aircraft fuel supply to major airports such as O R Tambo and many others.

They could see a synergy between the Flying Lions, Puma Energy and the marketing of the Puma brand and that is how the sponsorship started.

The Flying Lions are ideal flying billboards.

They have a phenomenal presence and they are part of a heritage which most South Africans can relate to and recognise.
