March says no to crime, drugs in Elsburg

Elsburg police and stakeholders join together to fight crime in Elsburg.

It was all about saying no to crime at a recent anti-crime march in Elsburg.

The event saw members of the Elsburg SAPS, the Elsburg SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit, the EMPD, the Department of Social Development, the Pentecostal Church, the CPF, the Local Drug Action Committee, motorcycle clubs, children and other interested stakeholders taking to the streets.

The group handed out 800 safety tip pamphlets and spoke to community members about drug abuse.

“Drugs, gender-based violence against women, children and the LGBTI community, firearm violence, street children and child abuse and neglect are still giving us sleepless nights in the Elsburg policing area,” said Const Daphney Phooko, the communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

“We appeal to our community to take care and look after themselves and their children, especially those who are experiencing challenges with their children who are addicts and are roaming the streets of Elsburg day and night enriching the drug lords to satisfy their habits.

“The youth of Elsburg are advised to come forward to get help and make use of rehabilitation services.”

The issue of drugs was high on the agenda of the march and Phooko added that she hoped the community will take the safety tips into consideration.

She further thanked all those who participated in the event for their dedication and hard work towards fighting crime in the area.
