Christmas fun for Broken Wings

Fun, gifts and a good meal were the order of the day at Broken Wings’ Christmas in July.

It was a fun-filled ‘Christmas in July’ at the Copper Canyon Spur in Lambton, last Tuesday.

The event was held specially for the elderly who reside at Broken Wings Association for Adults with Disabilities.

The residents were treated to a meal and entertainment.

“The meal was sponsored by the owner of Tic Toc Pre-School, Diane Herbst, in Lambton,” said Caren Smit who is from the restaurant.

“We were blessed to have entertainer Michael Herholdt offer his services for free. He ensured that all our special guests were well entertained.”

Face-painting was also on the cards for the day, which brought more colour and fun to the event.

“The guests enjoyed having their faces painted and we had fun spending the day with them and treating them to a ‘Taste for Life’,” said Smit.

“They are precious souls and a lot of fun.

“Thank you to the community members who opened their hearts and helped make this event a success. Many thanks to Fingers Promotion as well, for doing all our decorations at no cost.”

Additional entertainment was provided by Stefan Jansen from the restaurant who dressed up as Father Christmas, and Thabiso Motloung who played the saxophone.

Motloung played Christmas carols which tied in well with the Christmas-themed event.

“We wanted the residents to get the full Christmas package,” said Smit.

“Our guests were all given heartwarming gifts by our Santa; you could see the excitement in their faces.”

Fund-raising manager for Broken Wings, Sheryl Swanepoel thanked everybody who made the day special.

“Thank you to Spur for their great hospitality and to Herbst for the generous donation. We also thank the restaurant’s co-owners – Ursula Venter and Casper Versluis – for welcoming us with open arms,” said Swanepoel.

“A big thank you goes to Smit and the kind staff at the restaurant for putting all this together. ”
