Babies showered with love

Students learn to care for babies at El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety.

Babies at El-Shammah Home for Abandoned Babies and Place of Safety recently received a visit from students who are doing a learnership programme through Value Logistics.

Value Logistics contracted KLM Empowered to run the programme and it is facilitated by Strumpher Kluyts.

“Movement for Good is a programme within the learnership which requires being actively involved in a charity as a team,” said Strumpher.

Strumpher said the students had to choose a charity.

“The team chose to donate goods and their time to El-Shammah as some of them are familiar with the home,” said Strumpher.

“This programme aims to inspire learners to get involved in a charity in their respective communities as well.”

The students spent the day with the babies. They assisted the caregivers with the feeding of the babies among other things.

“It is all about teamwork; they have to write a full report of all the work they did and present it to management,” said Strumpher.

“After completing the 12-month learnership, the learners will attain a NQF Four Road Transport Supervision Qualification.”

Manager at the home, Allistair Scholtz, was pleased with the visit.

“We appreciate everything the youngsters did for us; it was really great having such young and positive people spending time with the babies,” said Scholtz.

“They were very energetic and eager to show the babies love, which is great because that is what babies need – love.

“We are truly grateful for the donations as well. They didn’t only donate their time, they also donated essentials that will assist the children greatly.”
