Suspect nabbed for possession of unlicensed firearm

One suspect wasa apprehended by the Primrose police for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Malvern East.

The Primrose police arrested a suspect, aged 32, for possession of an unlicensed firearm and some ammunition.

The arrest took place during a recent roadblock in Malvern East when police stopped a vehicle with five men inside.

“The five men were ordered to get out of the vehicle and searched,” said Sgt Styles Maome, the communications officer for the Primrose SAPS.

“The officers found a firearm in the possession of one of the men.”

Maome said the suspect failed to produce a licence for the firearm and alleged that he had picked it up near a hostel.

He was arrested and detained at the Primrose police station and will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
