Animals feel the love on Mandela Day

Parents and teachers from Heavenly Flowers join forces to make Mandela Day special for the animals of the Germiston SPCA.

Mandela Day was celebrated across the country, last Tuesday, and many people dedicated 67 minutes of community service to various organisations, to honour the late president.

Heavenly Flowers was no different.

This year the school collected animal food, with the help of their learners’ parents and the Lambton Spar, all of which was donated to the Germiston SPCA.

In addition to the donation, teachers from the school visited the organisation on Friday, where they spent time grooming and exercising the animals.

“It was such a great experience for us and we were greeted with so much friendliness from the staff and volunteers at the SPCA.

“We were inspired by the love and dedication that goes towards all the animals,” said Natasha Viljoen, on behalf of the school.

The team was so inspired that they are planning further outreach projects.
