Albemarle resident Leon de Beer is extremely disappointed in the Metro.
He lodged a query with the Metro’s help desk (support@e-siyakhokha.co.za) on June 21 and although he received an acknowledgement on the same day that his query would be escalated, he has heard nothing since.
“It is now July and I am still awaiting a reply from them,” he said.
“It is clear that it is a waste of time using the channels of communication as your queries are conveniently disregarded, probably due to the incompetence of producing a meaningful answer.”
De Beer sent the GCN a list of questions to which he requested the Metro’s spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, to give him a public reply.
The questions from de Beer and responses from Gadebe are the following:
Q: Why were residents of Albemarle were not officially informed about the roll-out of wheelie bins?
A: Areas falling under Ward 37 and 92 were omitted during the mass roll-out due to the wards falling under the Alberton and Edenvale Customer Care Centres but serviced by Germiston. The municipality is in the planning stages for the roll-out in the said wards where education and awareness will be conducted.
Q: Why Ward 39 still appears on our Ekurhuleni monthly accounts although we are Ward 37 in terms of the delimitation of wards since January 2016?
A: I am still waiting for the concerned department to comment.
Q: Why there is a shortage of supply of wheelie bins? There was no stock at the depot on July 2.
A: The Metro has sufficient supply/stock of bins for the Germiston area. These were relocated to a safer and more secure area during renovations at the Germiston depot. The renovations are complete and the bins will be transported back to the depot.
Q: Please confirm when residents of Ward 37 will be officially notified regarding the roll-out of wheelie bins?
A: Residents will be notified about a week before the official roll-out where a clearly identified distribution point and time will be communicated.
Q: Please confirm when residents of Ward 37 will be officially notified regarding pick-up points and home delivery dates of wheelie bins?
A: Distribution of 240L wheelie bins in the ward is a priority and a full roll-out will be conducted before August 15. Door-to-door deliveries will be conducted a week after the full roll-out in the particular ward. The door-to-door distribution will be done in line with the set minimum requirements (for recipients meeting the criteria for home visits).
Q: Confirmation that plastic refuse bags can be used in the meantime until this confusion has been sorted out?
A: Plastic bags will be collected in areas where the full roll-out of wheelie bins is incomplete.
