Thirteen vehicles impounded in by-law swoop

Multi-disciplinary by-law operation in Germiston targets establishments operating in violation of zoning regulations.  

Several formal and informal businesses in the Germiston CBD were swooped on recently for flouting zoning regulations.

The raids were done as a multi-disciplinary by-law operation which included officials from City Planning, Urban Management, Building Control, Environmental Health, the EMPD and the SAPS.

The special operation resulted in 13 motor vehicles being impounded, and seven notices and eight spot summonses being issued.

Officers outside what is believed to be an illegally operated spray-painting and panelbeating shop at the intersection of Knox and Hudson Streets in the Germiston CBD, recently, checking for by-law infringements.

The law enforcers concentrated their efforts along Queen Street, Meyer Street, Linton Jones Road, Knox Street, Webber Road, George Street and Simpson Street.

Eleven vehicles were confiscated from mechanic and spray-painting shops believed to be illegal and two were impounded for being displayed illegally on a pavement.

Notices and spot summonses were issued for contravention of environmental by-laws, as well as for unlicensed vehicles.

All the impounded vehicles were towed to the EMPD pound in Alberton.
