Mandela Day is fast approaching and everyone will be deciding where to spend their 67 Minutes in service to others.
Germiston Child Welfare is appealing to the community and local businesses to choose the organisation as their Mandela Day project.
The society has a number of wishes that need to be filled.
This is your chance to choose what you can do for Mandela Day in order to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
Germiston Child Welfare’s wishes are:
Repairs to building:
- Replace cracked glass windows.
- Replace or fix door handles of some rooms.
- Replace or fix the door of a storeroom.
- Repair the cracks on the walls on the inside and outside of the building.
- Fix or replace the electric fence surrounding the building so that it can be continually used.
- Fix the access control system so that there is permanent controllable access.
- Fix the cement pavement surrounding the buildings, that is cracked, separating and lifting.
- Repairing of broken cement on the entrance stairs.
- Repainting and fixing the casing around the windows on the outside of the building.
- Repair the wood on the outside wooden cabin.
- Repair a broken urn, on the wall.
Cleaning of the building:
- Intense cleaning of the walls of the building on the inside and the outside.
- Intense cleaning of all the carpets in the building.
- Cleaning and removing dirt in the gutters.
Painting:
- Repaint the walls in the play area with pictures to brighten up the play area.
- Remove paint and then repaint certain walls on the inside and outside of the building.
- Painting of the game “hop-scotch” on an area of cement.
Garden:
- Donate pot plants to place around the building to keep the area looking appealing.
- Donate and place topsoil and compost on flower beds and grass around the building.
- Donate and plant new grass.
- Pruning of trees.
Groceries.
Branding:
- Donate a sign board: one big and two small are needed.
- Donate branding banners or flags or a gazebo.
Cars:
- Panelbeating of the company cars.
- Full internal and external cleaning of the car engines and interior.
- New upholstery for vehicles.
Other:
- Replacing of all the carpets in the buildings.
- Replacing of curtains and blinds in some rooms.
- Donating secretary chairs, as well as chairs for customers.
- Donating new computers or laptops.
- Installing burglar bars on some windows.
- Donating new cupboards or cabinets for staff members.
- Donate a high capacity shredder.
- Donating and installing a CCTV system with a DVR and monitor.
- Donate and install anti-virus system for the organisation’s computers.
- Donate 67 or 670 hours of IT support for the next year.
Donations are tax deductible and Germiston Child Welfare can issue Section 18A certificates on request – if your donation is for goods, the certificate can be for the value.
