Nutrition experts reach out

The Germiston community was educated on the vast roles of dieticians.

Bertha Gxowa Hospital recorded a documentary, BGH Dietetics Talk Show, to create awareness of dieticians and their work.

The documentary was shot in the form of a talk show, at the hospital, during Dieticians’ Week, which took place from June 12 to 16.

The shooting of the documentary involved community members being interviewed by the hospital’s dietician, Nikiwe Kgomo.

“The aim is to spread the word on the vast roles and functions of dietitians,” said Kgomo.

“We have noticed that not a lot of people know about dieticians or where to find them and we want to alleviate that.

“What a dietician is, what dieticians do and where to find one were among the questions asked.”

In addition to celebrating Dieticians’ Week, “Ask a Dietician” stands were put out throughout the week where people could ask questions pertaining to nutrition.

Kgomo said the stands were put up at different locations in Germiston.

“We want people to know where and who to ask questions about nutrition because we feel we are experts when it comes to nutrition,” said Kgomo.

“People often feel it is easy to search on the internet to find the right answers and that is not always safe and the information is not always accurate.

“People have to find the right people to answer questions.”
