Makause tavern closed by cops

“Liquor is our main challenge in Makause - most of the crimes committed are related to liquor.”

Huge volumes of alcohol were confiscated from a tavern and a 32-year-old suspect was arrested in the Makause informal settlement, recently.

This was after the Primrose police closed down the tavern.

“Police were doing patrol duties when they heard loud music and they followed the sound, which led them to a group of people drinking alcohol,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“The officers then discovered that the people were buying the alcohol from the tavern.”

Maome said the officers went into the tavern and asked for a liquor licence, but none was presented to them.

The police confiscated the liquor and arrested the suspect who was selling it.

“Liquor is our main challenge in Makause – most of the crimes committed are related to liquor,” said Maome.

“We appeal to our community to refrain from selling liquor without a licence because we will keep on fighting it in our area.”

The suspect appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court and the matter was postponed.
