Children learn about their rights

Children learn safety tips during Child Protection Week.

Members of the Germiston SAPS visited various day-care centres in Dukathole Extension Five during Child Protection Week, which ran from May 25 to June 2.

“We spent time with the children and teachers in celebration of Child Protection Week,” said Germiston SAPS’ Const Queen Sibeko.

“Among other things, we educated them on safety tips and children’s rights.”

Sibeko said they also gave the children presents.

“Our visits were coupled with drawing books for the children,” said Queen.

“It was also important that we remind children not to accept gifts from strangers and walk with strangers, among other things.

“Parents and guardians also have to ensure that children are safe and know their whereabouts at all times.”

Rose of Hope Care Centre and Vukani Day Care Centre were among the six day-care centres visited.
