Local company sends skilled personnel to assist in Knysna

A team of four qualified firefighters and first-aiders from Germiston-based Interwaste are flying to Knysna to offer assistance.

Four Interwaste employees will be boarding a plane this morning (Saturday) to go and aid people in Knysna, which has been ravaged by fire.

The team, Kyle Edwards, Chase Evans, Juan Dorfling and Natasha Willcocks, are excited to be able to offer assistance to those who need it.

Kyle, Chase and Juan are all qualified industrial firefighters and all four employees have Level 3 first aid.

Their flights have been sponsored by Travel by Arrangement and the team has pre-arranged with disaster management in Knysna to set them to work when they arrive.

To add to this, the Industries East-based company has also held a collection among the staff and collected items which will be sent to Knysna via truck on Wednesday.

The community is welcome to drop off donations at the company, situated at 2 Brammer Street, before Wednesday to help fill the truck.

“We are grateful to our company for giving us the training so that we can use our skills to help people,” said Willcocks.

The GCN will speak to the intrepid team upon their return from Knysna to find out about their experience.
